critical mass, with kids

Friday, August 27th, 2004

I took the boys with me to tonight’s Critical Mass ride. I used Jeanine’s mountain bike because I have a kid’s seat on the back, and I took our bike trailer. Thomas John sat behind me in the bike trailer, and Timothy sat in the bike trailer.

I think we surprised a lot of people when we showed up. Usually the youngest people there are college kids, sometimes high schoolers. Every now and then a 10-year-old comes with his dad, but kids in bike seats are rare. And I’ve never seen a bike trailer on a Critical Mass ride. Well there has to be a first for everyone.

It was a nice evening for a ride. We started up Franklin, which we took to Utica, I think, then Elmwood to, hmm, the name of the street escapes me, but we turned at the corner of We Never Close, took that street all the way to Niagara Street, tried taking the riverwalk path, but the bridge on that is closed, so we turned around and headed south on Niagara. At that point, it was getting to the point where I thought Timothy had been strapped into the seat of the bike trailer long enough, and I was getting tired, and I don’t have lights on that bike, so we headed home.
