bike taxi rides for Sabres fans and theater-goers

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

I didn’t give many people rides to the Sabres game, naturally, they waited until after the game, when the rides are all uphill. Ha ha ha. It was okay though. I sat out some of the rain resting under the Thruway, talking to the ticket resellers.

I also gave a couple rides to people who had gone to the theater. I met one couple who had gone to a matinee of one play and the evening performance of another. I don’t think I could watch two plays in the same day.

I was tired. I didn’t ride as many miles as I did yesterday (less than half!), but most of my rides were uphill. Riding up Washington from the hockey arena, there’s one stretch of hill, right by the Buffalo News building, that is killer. I am usually breathing as hard as I can trying to keep up with my body’s demand for oxygen. So many people joke that they should get out and push, that’s how slow I usually get by the time I hit the top of the hill. But so far, I have never ran out of breath or ran out of leg strength or needed to take a break while I had passengers on board. I’m not bragging or complaining, you know. Just reporting.
