History of mountain biking

There is lots of historical information and misinformation that goes around about the history of mountain biking. First, mountain biking has ever been there since the beginning of cycling, only that it existed in different forms. In the 19th century, so many roads paved the way for mountain biking, but mountain bikers cycled on dirt trails and roads before that. A few examples of early off-road riding stand out: the 25 infantry bicycle corps. The other group is the Velo Cross Club Parisien (VCCP), which consists of twenty young cyclists.

The Marine Counter bicyclists

The next example is a band of cyclists needing the Cupertino or the Morrow dirt who emerged in the 1970s, seventy-five miles away from Marin. The band was best known for modifying bikes for off-road cycling. They grafted motorcycle levers and thumb shift drove derailleurs into their bike’s klunkers to help them go up and down the south bay’s hills. In 1974 December, the group’s technology was noticed in Marin county as they had gone there for a cyclocross race. The offroad bicycle riders in Marin County continued their riding and invented the first organized downhill bike racing.

The Marine Counter bicyclists named the series a repack because their coaster brakes had to be repacked with fresh grease after every race. During the steep descent, the grease evaporated due to the excessive heat that the extreme braking generated. As time went by, the number of marine riders who got involved in the race increased. And by this, there was more innovation on the mountain bikes. Eventually, inch pitch drive trains and coaster brakes were replaced by new bikes and lightweight components with chro-moly frames that were specifically designed for mountain biking races.

One revolution led to another; the initial cycle evolved into what it is today as the cycling enthusiasts loved doing what pleased them. The old one-speed klunker was renovated to what it is today, then modern cycling technology through competition and fun. One step led to the other until the modern biking that exists today.

MTB history

Let’s draw a conclusion with MTB history. The first quality mountain bike was invented in Marin County by Joe Breeze. Joe had spotted the increased demand for mountain bikes as he was riding on Mt Tamalphas’ rocky trails. In 1977 joe came up with a new high motorcycle that featured lightweight tubing. He continued with his innovations on the standard road bike by improvising it to fit the dirty mountain rails.

The current mountain bikes were not what they used to be decades ago. They all started by improvising the road bikes used until they came to be what they are today.
