History of Mountain Biking

Although mountain bikes are now common and everywhere, they are still recent in the transport industry. Mountain bikes were first introduced in the 1970s with badly modified street bikes. However, any time you saddle up, it is worth looking back at the form at the features we now love on bikes were some kind of impossible reality. If you are eager to learn about the history of mountain biking, this is the right place. In the previouos article we talking about some interesting bikes facts. In this article will give a more profound history of mountain biking with facts that prove amazing.

History of mountain biking

There is lots of historical information and misinformation that goes around about the history of mountain biking. First, mountain biking has ever been there since the beginning of cycling, only that it existed in different forms. In the 19th century, so many roads paved the way for mountain biking, but mountain bikers cycled on dirt trails and roads before that. A few examples of early off-road riding stand out: the 25 infantry bicycle corps. The other group is the Velo Cross Club Parisien (VCCP), which consists of twenty young cyclists.

The Marine Counter bicyclists

The next example is a band of cyclists needing the Cupertino or the Morrow dirt who emerged in the 1970s, seventy-five miles away from Marin. The band was best known for modifying bikes for off-road cycling. They grafted motorcycle levers and thumb shift drove derailleurs into their bike’s klunkers to help them go up and down the south bay’s hills. In 1974 December, the group’s technology was noticed in Marin county as they had gone there for a cyclocross race. The offroad bicycle riders in Marin County continued their riding and invented the first organized downhill bike racing.

The Marine Counter bicyclists named the series a repack because their coaster brakes had to be repacked with fresh grease after every race. During the steep descent, the grease evaporated due to the excessive heat that the extreme braking generated. As time went by, the number of marine riders who got involved in the race increased. And by this, there was more innovation on the mountain bikes. Eventually, inch pitch drive trains and coaster brakes were replaced by new bikes and lightweight components with chro-moly frames that were specifically designed for mountain biking races.

By the time there was media which noticed the invention and some of the bikers were writers, and so the innovation spread faster and further. A New off-road bike selling business was formed, which sold the innovative bikes. At that time, it is when bicycling got a new beginning, the renaissance of bicycling. One revolution led to another; the initial cycle evolved into what it is today as the cycling enthusiasts loved doing what pleased them. The old one-speed klunker was renovated to what it is today, then modern cycling technology through competition and fun. One step led to the other until the modern biking that exists today.

Raleigh bikes history

Raleigh bicycle manufacturing company was founded in 18187 by Sir Bowden Frank. After experiencing a bike’s health benefits, Bowden’s love for cycling motivated him towards making bicycles. In the 1920s, Raleigh became the best world bicycle regardless of the rising car popularity at that time. During the world war 1939 to 1945, these bikes’ sales increased, motivating more innovations and renovations. In 1969, Raleigh introduced a new chopper to the market and opened up a whole new market segment.

Later in 1969, the Ralegh grifter was launched, and this bike took after the BMX bike only that it had a three-speed hub and mudguards. By the 1990s, Raleigh produced the first electrically-assisted bikes in the market, which motivated further renovations. In 2004, an iconic Raleighchopper was relaunched thirty years after the first launching. The bike was a modification and was best suited for both adults and children. In 2018, Raleigh launched a family fun promoting the festival to allow people to try electric bikes.

Cannondale history

Cannondale is an American bike manufacturing company that revolutionized the design of mountain bikes. The first Cannondale bike was ST500, which was launched in 1983. The cycle evolved and later included a welded frame that sat over aluminum tubes. This trend inspired so many bike designers to build their brand bikes. In 1984 the motorcycle was renovated to SM500, which featured a Surfgino Aero tour crank and a Shimano DEORE XT drive forme. The initial CAnnodle cycle provided a European sprung saddle and a BMX styling. Today Cannondale produces aluminum, carbon, and carbon fiber bikes that fit the contemporary mountain biking techniques.

Shimano XTR history

Shimano XTR was invented in Feb 1921 by Shimano, who was 26 years old by then. He had started the business majorly to produce all kinds of bicycle wheels. By 1980 he changed the name to Shimano iron works co.,ltd. In 1957, Shimano invented a speed hub internal speed change; under a new president, the company strengthened the production system and started producing coaster brakes. Dura-ACE AX 7300 was introduced to minimize the aerodynamic drag, and by 1982, the first DEORE XT and SHIMANO series came into the market. Further renovations were made, and in 1983, Shimano 600EX was introduced, preceded by the DURA-ACE7400 series, which featured the Shimano index system. The bike has been under constant evolution, leading to the DURA-ACE R9100 series production in 2016, the modern motorcycle with all road racing components.

MTB history

Let’s draw a conclusion with MTB history. The first quality mountain bike was invented in Marin County by Joe Breeze. Joe had spotted the increased demand for mountain bikes as he was riding on Mt Tamalphas’ rocky trails. In 1977 joe came up with a new high motorcycle that featured lightweight tubing. He continued with his innovations on the standard road bike by improvising it to fit the dirty mountain rails.

The current mountain bikes were not what they used to be decades ago. They all started by improvising the road bikes used until they came to be what they are today.
